| Intermediate to Advanced Level – (This class is the perfect follow-up for the beginning level, Creative Writing 101.) We will deal with story themes, arcing and plot, targeting your audience, believable characterization, effective dialogue, and point of view. You will learn the difference between settings/scenery and imagery. We will also study active vs. passive verbs, how to build conflict, and detailed training on Show/Don’t Tell. Finally, you will learn how to recognize verbiage, and the secrets of editing. By the end of this term, you will have a complete story in hand. *Students should have a good command of the English language, be well grounded in the use of punctuation, parts of speech, and sentence structure. Count on 90 minutes of homework a week. |
